Gavin Stone Worked to Add Velocity, Maintain Himself Better Throughout Season With Dodgers

The Dodgers organization is filled with talent all across the different levels of the team. The front office has worked tirelessly to maintain a competitive squad on the field, while also working to preserve the future of the team.

Their farm system is consistently one of the best in the game, especially when it comes to pitching. The Dodgers scout pitchers as well as anyone, giving them multiple options to work with from the minor leagues.

One young pitcher who has been making some noise for himself early this spring is right-hander Gavin Stone. Stone has been with the organization since being drafted in the fifth round of the 2020 MLB Draft, but made his debut last season.

He struggled to find any consistency, appearing in eight games for the Dodgers. He posted an ERA of 9.00 over 31 innings but has been determined to work himself into a better spot for this season.

Stone worked throughout the winter to increase his velocity by adding more weight. He hopes this will help him maintain his abilities throughout the grueling baseball season.

So far, things seem to be working out better for Stone in Spring Training. In two appearances, he has put up an ERA of 1.59 over 5.2 innings. It’s a small sample size for the young right-hander, but he is making his case to potentially be in the starting rotation.

The Dodgers could end up going with a six-man rotation, a move that would open the door for Stone to be included. Of course, he will need to continue his strong performance the rest of the spring, but we could be seeing a lot more of Stone than maybe originally thought this coming season.
