The Club Company has unveiled the results of a ‘golf course revitalisation initiative’ that has been carried out across the portfolio over the last 18 months.

Focused on enhancing playability for members and guests, reducing winter closures, and delivering a first class golfing experience, The Club Company collaborated with golf course architect Jonathan Gaunt and his team at Gaunt Golf Design on ambitious remodelling projects across five of their UK club courses – Cams Hall Estate in Hampshire, Castle Royle in Berkshire, Lichfield in Staffordshire, Nizels in Kent, and The Tytherington in Cheshire.

Speaking about the project, Gaunt said: “The course remodelling work is bold and forward-thinking, bringing The Club Company’s facilities up to date and offering members and visitors a much-improved playing experience. Working on these kinds of projects is thoroughly satisfying.”

Lichfield

Lichfield golf course has undergone a captivating transformation, blending modern innovation with timeless design principles. Collaborating with course architect Simon Gidman, the focus was on refining the original design for a more dynamic play. Fewer strategically positioned bunkers now pay homage to legendary designers MacKenzie and Colt, creating greater visibility of the bunkers which adds a psychological twist to your game. With Phase 1 completed in 2021 and Phase 2 in November 2023, these changes will truly establish themselves as temperatures rise.

Following an extensive two-year investment, The Tytherington completed the second phase of drainage works, ensuring a top-notch course all year-round. Improved drainage on holes 1 through 16 in just five weeks using ‘gravel banding’ has minimized winter closures, while 370m of upgraded pathways enhance aesthetics and accessibility for players. With Phase 3’s bunker remodelling scheduled for April 2024.
