Close relationships inspired fightback victory

Gloucester-Hartpury’s Georgia Brock hailed their “togetherness as a group” propelled them to victory over Exeter Chiefs Women in the Premiership Women’s Rugby last Saturday.

The lead changed hands five time, with the Circus 12-10 and 19-17 down either side of half-time before they pulled away to to beat the Chiefs 31-24 at Kingsholm.

Back-row Brock scored a try in each half, alongside further efforts from Emma Sing, Pip Hendy and captain Natasha Hunt to secure their 12th consecutive win of the season and maintain their 100 per cent record.

“I think this season has been different, we have had to come back from losing a couple of times and it’s something we have all adapted to,” Brock said.

“The main thing is togetherness as a group. We are the Circus and it’s staying as a unit really.”

Brock said Exeter Chiefs pushed them “all the way” on their way to a “big” win but added that her side want to continue to grow and build on a weekly basis.

“They pushed us all the way from minute one to 80, it’s big for us to come away with a win like that,” she added.

“We want to build. We have standards, we have high standards and it’s making sure we keep to those really.

“Everyone is after us and I think it’s just making sure that we stick to our own process and build each week and go from there.”

Gloucester-Hartpury return to action this Friday when they welcome Harlequins Women to Kingsholm for their second game in six days.

And Brock says it’s all about continuing to build where they left off against the Devon outfit.

“It’s two weeks in a row at Kingsholm,” she said.

“It’s just building from today, six-day turnaround and get back out here Friday night.”
