New Chelsea target looks top quality – but will cost a bomb

Chelsea’s current sporting directors are in the habit of making slightly unexpected moves, and that looks set to continue this January.

Much as in the summer, when the move to sign Axel Disasi came out of left field, the rumours about Chelsea signing yet another central defender just won’t go away. Today, the Sun have an exclusive report that claims that Antonio Silva is the latest player interesting our scouts.

We can add him to a pile including Jean Clair Todibo and Ousmane Diomande.

The Sun say that we watched Benfica defender Silva as he played in a 3-0 win over Famalicao as part of our extensive scouting of the youth product in Lisbon.

Apparently we see him as a “potential new pilar in defence” with neither Disasi nor Benoit Badiashile nor Wesley Fofana looking like the rock at the back we so desperately want.

Silva would be a prime priced option, with Manchester United also interested, but he looks quality.
