Malaysia bowls a deliberate wide to pip Vanuatu on NRR

In the Challenge League play offs today, Vanuatu needed to chase 125 within 28.1 overs in order to overtake Malaysia in nrr and qualify for super six. Things got so close, they were on 121/7 after 28 overs , needing 4 off one ball.

They failed to hit the boundary, ended up adding 3 runs in the 29th over. They missed the initial target but could still make it if they hit a six in the first two balls of the next over. Scores were tied. Malaysia were (impressively) aware of this and they decided to ball a deliberate wide. This meant Vanuatu won the match but didn’t have the chance to overshoot the target. Malaysia pips Vanuatu by 0.05 in nrr.

Thankfully Bertus de Jong captured the scenes and posted in twitter.
